Schuylkill River Park is a neighborhood park under the jurisdiction of the recently formed Philadelphia Department of Parks & Recreation. The department was formed by merging Fairmount Park and the Philadelphia Department of Recreation. The park includes Markward Playground, the newly renovated ballfield, the basketball courts, and the tennis courts. It also includes the dogrun, the community garden, and the grass and the trees. The Community Garden is managed by
CCRA, through a steering committee of current Gardeners.
The Pennsylvania Horticulture Society is very generous to all the Philadelphia parks in facilitating networking as well as providing expertise and volunteers for both gardening and park cleanups. Philadelphia Parks Alliance is an advocacy group for all parks and green space in Philadelphia. Schuylkill Banks is our nearest neighbor, just over the railroad tracks. Often confused with the Schuylkill Banks, we benefit from their high profile, as well as the time and expertise of their employees. Eventually, thanks to the advocacy efforts of Schuylkill River Park Alliance (formerly Free the River Park) we will be joined to Schuylkill Banks by a pedestrian bridge. Thanks to all the groups that support our park. |
